On the first weekend of November, the Association Political prisoners.eu planned the first cleaning brigade in the area of the former mining changing room – “Řetízkárna”. Thanks to the volunteers was possible to do a lot of work in one day. THANK YOU!

“Řetízkárna” in Jáchymov has a new owner. A community center will be created from the former changing room of political prisoners.

The Association Political prisoners.eu, which is for example behind the restoration of the Jachymov’s hell educational trail, managed to buy t the object of the changing room at the former convict labor camp and uranium mine Rovnost near Jáchymov. The hope, which was launched at the beginning of the year by a successful public collection, was fulfilled thanks to the efforts of volunteers and friends of the association. The rescue of the building and its transformation into a community and educational center begins.

History has both its bright and dark sides. However, none of them should be forgotten. International project RETOUR – Remember to understand each other focuses on the modern history of individual participating countries. At the beginning of August, all participants met in the Czech Republic, where the organizers presented issues of the 1950s.

A public fundraiser to save “Řetízkárna” was announced on the Donio platform. We managed to collect the targeted amount of 200 000 CZK even with 14 days’ notice. THANK YOU!

On Saturday, 7th May 2022, a (non)Festival “Řétízkárna”, a benefit event to support the rescue of the former mine changing room from the 1950s, the last building preserved in its original condition from the area of the camp and the mine in the Rovnost area, took place in Jáchymov. Whole event was organized by the Association Political prisoners.eu in cooperation with the Journalist Incubator and other partners.
